Facilities

RFBYC and SoPYC both have magnificent modern club premises with the full range of facilities one would expect from large yacht clubs. Both clubs have over 2000 members each, multi-million dollar marina facilities, restaurants, bars, fulltime staff and administration support, meeting rooms, large function halls and rooms, casual hospitality areas, substantial water regatta resources and equipment, and much more.

Importantly, both have very strong commitments to competitive sailing, youth programs, and racing, and as such embrace the necessary culture that supports that focus with available volunteers, expertise, equipment, and well earned reputations.

These 2 organisations have agreed to combine their resources to ensure that The 8th ISAF World Team Racing Sailing Championship in 2009 is not just a success; it will be the best that has ever been conducted.

Both venues will be used for The 8th ISAF World Team Racing Sailing Championship in 2009 and have excellent viewing of the proposed racing areas which are immediately adjacent to their respective club premises. Both have been used extensively for Club, State and National level teams racing events in Australia over the past decade.

The venues are part of the waters of Perth’s magnificent Swan River. The waters are tidal (less than 0.5m every 24 hours), and are clean, salt water, pollution free, and are regularly used for all types of aquatic sports by the people of Perth. Both racing areas are in protected flat water with no swell or significant wind wave conditions, and water temperatures make sailing a pleasure.

It is proposed that the event will commence at one club and run through until a programmed layday. The program will then resume at the second club and racing will conclude at that venue. Whilst this might be unusual, the venues are not far apart, and the combining of resources will significantly enhance the event and its smooth conduct. Local competitors commonly sail the short distance from one Club to the other for regular local racing events.

A familiarisation of both venues will be undertaken, prior to the championship commencing, for everyone participating to ensure this mid event change occurs smoothly and seamlessly. The race officials, umpires, yachts, official and support boats and all other resources will be exactly the same at both venues.
It is quite simply a change of venue. Finish racing one day, enjoy a layday, and pick up racing again after the lay day at the new venue.

The physical relocation of all the equipment and resources will be undertaken (mostly by water) on the lay-day by a dedicated team engaged for that purpose. The exercise will take no longer than a couple of hours, so that even in the case of a weather failure and the need to use part of the layday for racing, the change can still be made.

Officials and competitors will have the opportunity to enjoy Perth, its surrounds, and what it has to offer on an optional organised layday activity to be scheduled.
